In medicine, vital signs are statistics taken to assess the most basic functions of the body.
In The United Methodist Church, VitalSigns are measures of vitality that assess the most basic functions of congregations. These include profession of faith, worship attendance, involvement in small groups, engagement in local outreach and mission, support of missions around the world, giving to support the ministry of the congregation, and a brief testimony or narrative account of a church's ministry for the week.
The Detroit Conference is one of several conferences in The United Methodist Church that is piloting the VitalSigns program, which was developed by the General Conference on Finance and Administration (
